On July 1, 2025, nearly 200 volunteers and members from Edmonton’s Chinese community gathered in Stony Plain to celebrate the 9th annual Canada Day Drum Festival. Organized by the National Congress of Chinese Canadians (Edmonton Chapter) together with partner associations, the event used drumming and performances to celebrate Canada’s birthday and promote the spirit of multicultural harmony. Distinguished guests including Mayor William Choy, Dr. Donald Yu (President of NCCC–Edmonton), and Dr. Paul Gareau (Associate Dean, Faculty of Native Studies, University of Alberta) delivered remarks, reflecting on Canada’s 158 years of nationhood and the importance of inclusiveness. The Chinese community presented cheongsam fashion, Tai Chi, dragon and lion dances, and martial arts, while residents showcased Indigenous cultural performances. Applause and cheers filled the festival, making it a meaningful celebration of diversity. The event not only strengthened ties between Edmonton and Stony Plain but also laid the groundwork for future cultural exchange and cooperation.
