9th Annual Canada day drumming
第九届 “加拿大日击鼓节”

On July 1, 2025, nearly 200 volunteers and members from Edmonton’s Chinese community gathered in Stony Plain to celebrate the 9th annual Canada Day Drum Festival. Organized by the National Congress of Chinese Canadians (Edmonton Chapter) together with partner associations, the event used drumming and performances to celebrate Canada’s birthday and promote the spirit of multicultural harmony. Distinguished guests including Mayor William Choy, Dr. Donald Yu (President of NCCC–Edmonton), and Dr. Paul Gareau (Associate Dean, Faculty of Native Studies, University of Alberta) delivered remarks, reflecting on Canada’s 158 years of nationhood and the importance of inclusiveness. The Chinese community presented cheongsam fashion, Tai Chi, dragon and lion dances, and martial arts, while residents showcased Indigenous cultural performances. Applause and cheers filled the festival, making it a meaningful celebration of diversity. The event not only strengthened ties between Edmonton and Stony Plain but also laid the groundwork for future cultural exchange and cooperation. 2025年7月1日,近两百名爱城华人社区志愿者与成员齐聚Stony Plain镇,参加第九届“加拿大日击鼓节”。活动由全加华人联会爱城分会联合多家社团共同举办,以鼓乐和表演庆祝国庆,传递多元文化共融精神。 市长William Choy、虞仲孚医生(全加华人联会埃德蒙顿分会主席)及阿尔伯塔大学原住民研究学院副院长Dr. Paul Gareau等嘉宾出席致辞,强调加拿大158年建国历程中的多元与包容。 华人社区带来了旗袍走秀、太极拳、舞龙舞狮与中国功夫等节目,当地居民则展示了原住民传统表演。现场掌声与喝彩不断,成为一场别具意义的多元文化盛会。 此次活动不仅增进了爱城与Stony Plain镇的联系,也为未来文化交流与合作奠定基础。

Celebrate Asian Heritage Month
庆祝亚洲文化月

On May 24, 2025, Edmonton successfully hosted a multicultural event celebrating Asian Heritage Month. Featuring music, dance, and Tai Chi performances, the activity promoted dialogue and understanding among Asian, African American, and Indigenous cultures.

Dr. Donald Yu, President of the NCCC Edmonton Chapter, opened the event by thanking the provincial government and community for their support, highlighting the value of cultural heritage and inclusion.

Ms. Mandy Quon, Assistant Dean of the Indigenous Studies Institute at the University of Alberta, shared insights on cultural transmission from an Indigenous perspective.

City Councillors Tim Cartmell and Jennifer Rice acknowledged the event’s role in fostering community unity and multicultural harmony.

The vibrant gathering showcased cultural diversity and enhanced mutual understanding and respect among ethnic groups.

庆祝亚洲文化月:多元文化表演与社区对话成功举办

2025年5月24日,爱城成功举办”庆祝亚洲文化月”多元文化活动。通过音乐、舞蹈和太极等表演,促进了亚洲、非裔与原住民文化间的对话与理解。

全加华人联会埃德蒙顿分会会长虞仲孚医生致开幕词,感谢省政府与社区支持,强调活动对文化传承与社区共融的价值。

阿尔伯塔大学原住民研究院助理院长Mandy Quon女士分享了原住民视角下的文化传承意义。

市议员Tim Cartmell和Jennifer Rice均肯定活动对促进社区团结与多元和谐的积极作用。

整场活动气氛热烈,展现了文化多样性的魅力,增进了各族裔间的交流与尊重。

Ethnocultural Family Day Celebration
亚省民族文化家庭节

On February 15, 2025, the “Alberta Ethnic Cultural Family Festival”, co-hosted by the NCCC-Edmonton and the West District Seniors Activity Centre, was successfully held with provincial government funding and broad community participation.

The ceremony opened with the national anthem. Former Chief Billy Morin delivered the land acknowledgement. Dr. Haidong Liang and Dr. Donald Yu spoke, thanking government and community support while highlighting multicultural values.

Ms. Mandy Quon shared the importance of Indigenous cultural heritage for community connections. Councillor Tim Cartmell acknowledged the event’s role in promoting unity. Mayor Amarjeet Sohi praised cultural diversity and encouraged building an inclusive city.

The event featured cheongsam shows, harmonica performances, lion dances, and Ethiopian dances, showcasing multicultural charm.

This gathering strengthened community bonds through cultural exchange. We look forward to Edmonton continuing to create vibrant community stories through multiculturalism
